About this course

This course introduces the study of human cultures, concepts, methods, and theories used in the comparative study of socio-cultural systems with an emphasis on understanding and appreciating human diversity. A holistic and cross-cultural perspective is used to explore political, economic, and kinship systems; language, art, and religion; race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and class; culture change and the impact of colonialism and globalization. The course focuses on applying an anthropological perspective to contemporary social issues. As an honors course, the students will be expected to complete extra assignments to gain deeper insight into anthropology.

No section is scheduled at De Anza College for Fall 2026. The course can still be offered in a later quarter.
