About this course

This course surveys the international development of the motion picture to 1950 as a distinct form of artistic expression, through classic films, notable artists, and key events; an investigation of the aesthetic, technological, economic, and social factors that contributed to the evolution of film; an examination of the value systems reflected in and shaped by these works from diverse cultures. As an honors course, students will be expected to complete extra assignments to gain deeper insight into the history of cinematic arts.
