About this course

Students will be introduced to the forms, techniques, literary elements, historical roots, biographical considerations, and cultural contexts for poetry, focusing mostly on contemporary poetry. Students will practice strategies for critical reading of poems to make important observations and inferences and construct meaning from poems, using evidence from the poetry itself and taking critical lenses, biographical, historical, and cultural contexts into consideration to develop interpretations.
